G.I.A (Gordon Ingram Associates)

GIA (Gordon Ingram Associates)

Formally known as Gordon Ingram Associates, this multidisciplinary practice offers surveying, property and design consultancy.

Challenge

A vast open plan basement space spanning two levels. As an office space it needed to respond to needs of administrative staff, as well as design. A limited amount of daylight placed additional demand on the artificial lighting.

Solution

Creating lighting zones within the vast open plan office, taking into account the requirement of light levels in areas where creative computer aided design is carried out by comparison to the needs of non-design functions.

The dynamic lighting control allowed for this adaptation. Allowances were made for daylight harvesting with consideration of the shift in colour temperature from morning to afternoon lighting conditions. Visual comfort was also taken into account by means of reducing glare.

Practice

Tanya was responsible for the lighting design of the featured project while in-house lighting designer at Gordon Ingram Associates and later director of GIA Lighting.
