Grosvenor House Apartments by Jumeirah Living

Grosvenor House Apartments by Jumeirah Living is a luxury hotel situated on London’s exclusive Park Lane, overlooking Hyde Park. 6-star hotel style residence offers unprecedented luxury in London.

​​​Set within a twentieth century London icon, Grosvenor House Apartments underwent a major redevelopment of the famous Grosvenor House building designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in the early 1900s.

The development offers 131 contemporary suites combined with integrated public spaces to create London’s premium “apart-hotel”

Challenge

Several floors of apartments overlooked an impressive atrium space. The atrium was a place where guests are encouraged to meet and unwind. At the top of the atrium the eye was met with a large expanse of glass, which formed the roof to the atrium.

This vast expanse needed to be lit carefully as the balance of both function and ambiance was important.

The atrium façade and structural beams were initially considered as mounting positions for the prospective light fittings, but it however, was the centrepiece chandelier that needed careful consideration in both form and location.

Solution

An LED light fitting was selected as it offered long lamp life. LED also allows for significantly reduced maintenance intervals. This characteristic was important as the chandelier was suspended several metres from the ground floor.

The chandelier mechanics was designed in such a way that the chandelier could be lowered toward the ground floor whilst a mechanical platform would need to be raised from the ground floor to meet the chandelier halfway. This meant the atrium space would need to be closed from use to the guest, causing inconvenience and interrupting trade. As such, an energy efficient, long life LED lighting solution was carefully housed within each panel of the chandelier.

The glow of light was effective and used a practical technical solution that brought the word of design and engineering together – creating beauty.
